Cyrtomium fortunei is a compact, upright semi-evergreen fern with distinctively shaped bright green fronds, giving it the common name of Holly fern. It makes an attractive addition to a shady border, contrasting with other ferns.

Plant Cyrtomium fortunei in a humus-rich soil in partial or full shade. Water in dry periods. Remove old fronds in spring.

Can’t plant straight away?

Place in a sheltered spot and water regularly to keep the compost moist.

Dig a hole approximately twice as deep and 3 times as wide as the plant’s rootball. If your soil is heavy mix in a soil improver before backfilling. Firm the soil around the plant and water thoroughly.
