Zantedeschia ‘Royal Valentine’ flowers in early summer, producing deep red hooded flowers nestled in upright clumps of white-spotted green leaves. It makes a real statement in a pot or planted in a tropical-themed border in reliably moist soil. The striking flowers are ideal for cutting, lasting well in a vase.

How you will receive your bulbs:

Selected by our team of experts and sent from our nursery, you will receive your bulbs in a breathable mesh bag. This is to keep the bulbs together in a pack that is nice and airy – perfect to keep the bulbs healthy while in transit.

Can’t plant straight away?

Keep your bulbs in a cool, light, and dry place and preferably hanging on a hook so that air can get to the bulbs at all angles. Ideally, you should aim to plant your bulbs within a week of receiving them, but if this is not possible, store them in a cool, dark place until you are ready to plant them.

Planting tips and hints:

Plant indoors in spring about 2.5cm deep in individual 2L pots filled with loam-based compost like John Innes No 2. Place the bulbs with the smoother side facing down and the knobbly ‘eyes’ pointing upwards, one bulb per pot. Water the pots and leave them in a warm indoor spot at between 16-20°C (60-68°F). Once shoots start to appear, move them to a cooler, bright position and water sparingly until the leaves have completely unfurled. Harden off and plant out once all risk of frost is past.

Feeding and aftercare:.

Water freely and feed fortnightly during the flowering period with a high potash feed like liquid tomato fertiliser. Cut back faded foliage and flowerstems in autumn, lift bulbs and store in a cool dry frost-free place over winter. Move container-grown plants indoors and water very sparingly in winter.
